These are not normal crevices on the wall, but openings for the soilders to fire weapons like guns or bow & arrow. The third pic is what I liked a lot, if you look closer, you can see the wall on the left. It is the back wall of the complex and exactly opposite is the other tower, which has a simillar opening. If the enemy soilders try putting a ladder and try climbing the wall, they can fire from these openings and get them down.
