Shaniwar Wada: The peshwa's court

This is the central location, where the main Peshwa used to sit and hold a court for the locals. Any kind of queries and questions were answered here.

There is an interesting fact about the walls of Shaniwar Wada. During the 1964 floods in Pune, when the Panshet Dam walls had broken, it was Shaniwar Wada which protected the city from completely getting drowned.

Shaniwar Wada: The curves

I wanted to show the curves... enjoy them...

Shaniwar Wada: Closer look at the architecture

Speak for themselves...

Shaniwar Wada: Aim, Lock, Fire

These are not normal crevices on the wall, but openings for the soilders to fire weapons like guns or bow & arrow. The third pic is what I liked a lot, if you look closer, you can see the wall on the left. It is the back wall of the complex and exactly opposite is the other tower, which has a simillar opening. If the enemy soilders try putting a ladder and try climbing the wall, they can fire from these openings and get them down.

Shaniwar Wada: 'Delhi Darwaza'

Front Entrance Inside
Too Close for comfort

This is an upclose and personal with the 'Delhi Darwaza'. The front view, the inside and a close up on the barbes on the door [doesn't it sound too small to call it a door??]

Shaniwar Wada [Saturday Palace]

Guys, after a long break i'm back with some pics. Last Sunday I was supposed to go rafting, but got cancelled, and landed with a friend over here. I liked the over all architecture of the place. This massive structure was built in 1732 A.D. and housed over a 1000 people. Built by peshwas as a control center, captured by british and recaptured by peshwas, played a major role during the early years of british raj in India.

During the early 19th century the place was gutted with fire and burnt for over a week!

The complete structure is stone and limestone. There was a seven storied building residing within the walls of this huge complex. The main gate that you see in the pic is called the 'Delhi Darwaza' and the interesting part is it faces north [in the direction of Delhi, this is our interpretation of why it is called 'Delhi Darwaza']. Check the next few post for more detailed pics of the complex.

Water water everywhere not a drop to waste

Cannon & WWF are holding a photography compedition, with a topic "Water water everywhere and a not a drop to waste". I saw this drop of water falling from my grill and thought of capturing it.
