The BIGGEST Diwali Diya [Lamp]

Vijay & Me had been for a walk to 'Center One' Vashi, where we found this huge lamp hanging from the 4th floor right upto the 1st floor of the mall. Photography is prohibited here , else might have got a better picture.

Aakash Kandil

This lantern was planted out side one of my aunt's house. I liked the way it has come out.

Twinkle Twinkle little star...

We were trying wierd designs and tricks with a fuljadi [sparkler], making some random designs. The idea of a star was proposed by Shilpa [my wife] and it's Dhruv [my cousin] enacting the same. The camera settings were

ISO - 400
Exposue Time: 3 seconds

The pic has come out neat, the sparks look are really scary

Fireworks - 1/30"

Fireworks is what I promised, and fireworks is what I have. This is an amazing pic, I got my hands on. The pic was clicked on "multiburst" mode, where in the camera takes 16 shots in 1/30th of a second.

This was mostly publicised as sports mode, but i like to call it "firecracker mode" ;)

Toy decoys for kids: Chakri [wind mills] & Cars

This is low down version of windmill following the same principle. A toy man was selling his goods on the busy road.

A modern day merry-go-round where kids can sit and enjoy themselves driving the car in circles [makes me feel dizzy]. These are decoys to keep the kids busy while the moms can shop themselves to glory!!

Laxmi Road [the madness called shopping]

The madness of shopping can be truly experienced at Laxmi Road, Pune. People [read ladies] were frantically shopping, as though there would be no tomorrow for shopping ever!! Luckily my bike was in for servicing and I did not have to drive through this road... whew!!

Dabbe pe Dabba

A tower of mithai [sweet] boxes, stacked at a shop in Pune, on Dhanteras...

Bal Gandharv

This is at Bal Gandharv [a cultural theater] in Pune, where we can see the number of lanterns laid out. The place was looking amazing. I really missed for not being able to carry my tripod to this place, else I might have got more amazing pics.

There were I believe over a 100 lanters in the vicinity.

White light, Yellow light

On one side of the construction were white lights and the other end, yellow. I liked the way the contrast brewed on the buildings, kinds looks cool and amazing...

The Moon: the only natural satellite of the Earth

Purely experimental... yet beautifully successful!! I was always mesmerized by the full moon and always wanted a pic of this, after various attempts of 2 second and 3 second exposures, I tried the reverse of it, and this is the best of the lot. [this is one day after the full moon]

This pic is taken at 1/100th of a second, and I can't just stop admiring it!!

Moon is highly influential on the moods of a person, 60-65% of the human body is composed of water, and we all know how the sun and the moon play with the tides in the sea. There is an interesting theory behind evolution. Most of the ladies get their menstruation cycle close to the full moon, which is also the optimum time for the men to hunt, and also the dark nights are the most dangerous ones [in which men ideally do not venture out], which helps in proper ovulation and copulation, hencing leading to proper evolution, interesting isn't it!!

Calendar 2007: Architectural Monuments

Flora Fountain [Bombay]

Shaniwar wada [Pune]

Define: monument--> A monument is a structure built for commemorative or symbolic reasons rather than for any overtly functional use. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monuments
Continuing the trend of featuring artistic works of the Persistent family in our corporate calendar, we would like to invite interested employees to contribute towards the making of Persistent 2007 Calendar.

The theme for Calendar 2007 will be photographs of Architectural Monuments or Flowers in India.
Well so I went out and clicked some. The best ones are posted here, vote the best of the two and which one you think I might have submitted.

Shaniwar wada stiched

In my last post I had expressed the desire to view SW in the night mode, here is a stiched pic of 3 pics, each of them is exposed for 4-5 seconds.
